QUILTASTIC NORTH INDIA
Nomadic communities who have traced the entire landscape of North India have a rich repertoire of thread crafts. The men are cattle herders, and the women set camps and manage the family even as they move in search of grazing land. The only stable aspect of their lives is their craft. The intricate embroideries, patchwork, applique, etc. are unique for each community. Nowadays they are almost settled in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
The art of block printing, painting intricate patterns on cloth using coloured wax, setting musical tones for the cattle bells.....there are so many crafts on this region that would thrill anyone who understands textile magic.
This program goes beyond showing us the variety of North Indian textile crafts. We participate in workshops conducted by the artisans themselves. Yes, we learn from the Master Craftspeople.
